You know, if you think about it, from the time you could spell your name (maybe even before then), you started learning about math, history, and the alphabet… then you graduated from kindergarten and refined your knowledge in these subjects for another twelve years… then you may have spent another four or eight years or more building on your hard-earned base of knowledge to earn your baccalaureate, masters, or doctorate degrees… but think hard… were you ever taught the first thing about buying a home? More than half of the population in the United States owns a home and to my knowledge, there is not a high school in the country that teaches students what to expect when they are “on the market” for their first home. Given that purchasing a home is oftentimes a family’s single largest investment, it is unfortunate that so many people get their degree in purchasing a home from the school of hard knocks (experience).
Over the past few years, our company has sold many homes. We have sold small homes, big homes, brick homes, stone homes, tall homes, short homes, and even a home with shag carpet (hey, the customer asked for it, so we installed it). Read the rest of this entry »

A similar question would be “Does it matter if I wear my shoes on the correct feet?” Sure, you could put your shoes on the wrong feet… but it is going to be painful and leave blisters.
In a perfect world, everyone would be good at what they do and everyone would do their job right the first time… and money would grow on trees, right? Back to earth… title companies are made up of human beings and human beings make mistakes… therefore, the only logical conclusion is that title companies too will make mistakes. The problem is that when title companies make mistakes, very bad things can happen.

We are launching a Live Chat feature on our website this evening in hopes that it will further streamline and facilitate communication with our customers. Live Chat… you know… the little button you see on some websites these days that allows you to start an IM session with a real live person…
What do you think? Will people use this feature? Would you use it?
Personally, I prefer to use Live Chat tools when I am doing internet research. I would MUCH rather be on IM with someone than waiting to get connected to them by phone (while listening to poorly recorded renditions of Beethoven’s 9th Symphony). I do not want to give you the wrong impression, I must disclose that our phone system is AWESOME and does a great job making sure that people can get a hold of us easily… but for most websites, I have found that Live Chat is THE way to get questions answered quickly and easily.
Let the world know what you think.

The honest to goodness truth is that most homebuilders despise home inspectors.
It is to be expected really. I mean, from a homebuilder’s perspective, he has just worked his guts out for a few months building your new home and at the last minute, someone shows up with a magnifying glass trying to find reasons why the homebuilder should come back and redo work that has been completed. It creates friction with the customer. It is ALWAYS a last minute scramble to address the punch list. It is expensive… AND EVERYONE WANTS TO CLOSE YESTERDAY!!! Try to imagine a co-worker going to your boss and telling him about everything that you have done wrong on a recent project… then imagine paying them to do so. Then imagine everyone staring over your shoulders as you try to correct the problems… telling you to hurry up and finish it all. How would you feel?

The mere fact that you are reading this blog gives you bragging rights as a savvy and well-informed home-buyer… it is also an indicator that you likely drink way too much coffee and still have dirty dishes in the kitchen sink. Joking aside, isn’t the internet an amazing thing? You can learn more about homes, kitchen faucets, the newest and coolest home theater systems, the latest bathroom design fads, and even the reputation of your builder or real estate agent by riding the waves of Google et al (surfing the net). The internet is THE way to research buying a home… period.
Anyhow, welcome to our new blog. The idea behind our blog is two-fold and simple. First and foremost, we wanted to create a platform for people like you to ask questions, tell your own stories, impart your own wisdom, and otherwise provide you with a means of entertainment late in the evenings or whenever you set aside personal time (oh, come on… be excited!). The second reason is to provide for a means of attracting web-traffic to our bad-to-the-bone website so that we are more likely to land you and your friends as customers (at least we are honest about it). Apart from the stated reasons, we also want to learn from people like you… what you think about… what you talk about… the kinds of things that excite you…
Please feel free to post your thoughts, your questions, your concerns, or really anything related to buying/building/leasing a home in the United States. While our staff may not have all the answers, I am sure that somebody who comes across your thoughts will. Apart from that, our staff is already in constant contact with legal, engineering, accounting, and other professionals who can provide everyone with greater insight into whatever the subject matter may be.
Enjoy yourself and don’t forget to do the dishes.
